Our ethics and policies

We want to have a positive impact on society beyond our products and services.

Ethics

Ethics and integrity

We are committed to operating lawfully and with the highest ethical standards no matter where in the world we operate - and we expect the same high standards from our suppliers and partners. We believe that our organisation’s goals should never be achieved at the expense of ethical standards and by working against corruption in all its forms, we can encourage inclusive, accountable societies.

Ethics and conduct

Our Code of Ethics provides guidance on the standards of behaviour to which all our employees must adhere. We update our Code of Ethics annually.

The Third party code of conduct sets out the standards and expectations for third parties such as agents, assessment specialists, contractors, distributors, joint venture partners and suppliers, from health and safety to training and the impact from trading activities on the environment and local communities.

Our Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking statement is updated annually. We strictly prohibit the use of modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chain. We also recognise the importance of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

We believe that our organisational goals should never be achieved at the expense of high ethical standards and we believe that all people should be treated with dignity and respect. Cambridge has a zero tolerance approach to all forms of bullying, harassment, sexual exploitation and abuse, as set out in our Global Safeguarding Policy.

Publishing Ethics

Our Academic Research Publishing Ethics Guidelines outline the publishing ethics responsibilities of Cambridge University Press, authors, peer reviewers and editors. Our Teaching and Learning Guidelines outline our editorial process and approvals, as well as cover permissions, plagiarism and conflicts of interest.

Sustainability and environment

We are committed to ethical and sustainable practices and we have a comprehensive framework of policies to guide our operations.

Environment

Our Environment Policy sets out our responsibilities in protecting the environment and demonstrates our commitment to improving our environmental performance throughout our operations and supply chain.

Sustainable procurement of forestry products

We are committed to minimising our impact on global deforestation and forest degradation.

From the end of 2024, the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which aims to reduce global deforestation and carbon emissions, and increase human rights protection in forestry-related supply chains, will apply to our products sold in Europe.

We are working with our supply chain to ensure that Cambridge is compliant with the EUDR.
