About the Authors
  • This practical text and color atlas tells the story of 350 patients, covering a wide range of thyroid lesions with high quality composite images that correlate cytology with histology, and radiology with pathology. Each case includes clinical presentation and final pathology. Concise, easy-to-read text enables readers to quickly find the information they need for accurate diagnosis. 'Lookalike' lesions are grouped together so the subtle cytological differences can be appreciated. The author's practical approach explains mistakes made and lessons learned, so diagnostic pitfalls can be avoided. Logarithmic triage diagrams are provided, as well as over 2000 printed photomicrographs and a CD-ROM offering images in downloadable format. Written by a leading cytopathologist who has performed onsite assessment for over 10,000 ultrasound-guided thyroid fine needle aspirations, this is an important resource for all healthcare professionals dealing with thyroid patients, including cytopathologists, surgical pathologists, cytotechnologists, sonographers, radiologists, endocrinologists and surgeons.

    • Describes 350 case studies chosen from over 10,000 thyroid FNAs, so that readers learn from real experience
    • Richly illustrated with over 2000 composite images, correlating ultrasound with pathology, and cytology with histology
    • Each case includes clinical presentation and final pathology, with 'lookalike' lesions grouped together so the subtle cytological differences can be appreciated
    • Mistakes made and lessons learned are shared with the readers, so diagnostic pitfalls can be avoided

"A well-illustrated, visual learning medium for both the pathology trainees and the practicing pathologists … the book is an atlas of the classic and the variant morphologic findings of the most common conditions in thyroid and their differential diagnoses. It is a well organized work that promotes active learning through clinical scenarios based format, incorporates radiologic image, and correlates FNA images …"
    American Society of Cytopathology Bulletin

"This is a very useful reference. The number and quality of the photos make it a valuable addition to any cytopathologist's library. 4 stars."

A Beautiful and Practical Thyroid Cytopathology Book This book has helped me and my colleagues a great deal, since our laboratoryin Greecebought it in April. It is not a conventional cytology book, but a true multidisciplinary book, correlating clinical and radiological data with cytological presentation and final pathology. This book has helped our laboratory in everyday practice and in our opinion it fills a gap among thyroid books. Text is written very carefully, is descriptive, easy to read and highly organized. The images are beautiful, especially the panoramic photographs of various tumors is unique among pathology books. Histology confirmation is provided in most of the cases presented. Readers can correlate the cytology images and get acquainted with the many faces of every entity that is described in this book. It also is interesting to follow the clinical presentations of the patients and by following this format the author highlighted the diagnostic pitfalls and limitations of FNA cytology. There are so many practical tips coming from an author who has published a lot of thyroid articles based on my PubMed search. By applying Professor Yangs practical approach and algorithms in everyday practice, our laboratory feels more confident when dealing with follicular variant of papillary carcinoma. We highly recommend this excellent textbook for both trainees and experienced pathologists in addition to thyroid health professionals.
