United Nations Global Compact

We are a proud signatory to the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability programme. It encourages organisations to do business responsibly and to take strategic actions to advance broader societal goals. Underpinning the programme is a global call to organisations and businesses to align strategies and operations with ten principles on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.

Communication on progress

We published our first communication on progress as joint organisation on 27 April 2022. The report is based on analysis of ways in which we have increased our alignment with the Ten Principles throughout our global activities, enhanced positive impacts and reduced areas of negative impact – for example, how we have cut our environmental footprint from plastic waste.

We take our commitment to people and planet seriously and by reporting in this way, we want to make our journey towards becoming a more sustainable organisation transparent for our people, learners and communities. Being a signatory to the UN Global Compact guides us in continually reducing our environmental impact and improving diversity, inclusion and equality in our organisation, in our supply chains and in education and research around the world.

Ultimately, we believe that education is the most powerful long-term solution to poverty, conflict and many of the issues facing the world today. By aligning our work to increase knowledge and understanding of sustainability issues and developing curriculums, publishing research, educational materials and programmes and delivering assessments with the sustainability principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals in mind, we recognise that we can be an even more effective agent for global change.
