Themes in the Social Sciences

The purpose of this series is to publish discussions that will interest anthropologists, sociologists, demographers, and those economists, historians and political scientists who are concerned with issues outside of the conventional limits of their disciplines. Both theoretical and empirical, and often comparative, this series publishes books on a range of diverse societies, which will be useful teaching tools for advanced undergraduates and graduates.

General Editors: Jack Goody; Geoffrey Hawthorn; John Dunn
