Originally published in 1950, this book was designed to practically teach upper-level school students the properties and behaviours of materials in elementary physics. The book is divided into three principal sections, 'Mechanics,' 'Light' and 'Heat', and presents a collection of theories, experiments and observations on each topic. Notably, the experiments are based on previously set examination questions and include 'Torsional oscillations of a suspended bar', 'Oblique incidence on a lens' and 'Resistance of a stretched wire'. Linear equations and diagrams are included throughout to support the text, and an introduction is also provided. This book will be of great value to researchers and scholars of physics and to anyone with an interest in the history of education.
