Win up to £1,500 funding with the Teacher Research Programme

Do you want to investigate what works best for school-age learners? Do our approaches to teaching English to children really work?

We are looking for teachers who want to research ELT in schools as part of the Teacher Research Programme, which was first launched by Cambridge University Press in 2014.

The theme for this year is Improving ELT pedagogy in schools. Five research projects will be chosen and each will be given £500 plus advice and guidance on the project. Then one of these projects will be awarded with a further £1,000 and selected to co-present their research at IATEFL International Conference (UK) in 2016.

The programme is a fantastic opportunity to develop your own professional skills and raise the profile of your institution whilst making a positive difference to classroom practice. To apply, submit your proposal here by 6 April 2015.

Last year’s theme, Digital Pedagogy, attracted applications from teachers in 36 countries around the world. The overall winner was José Mª López Lago from the Language Center in Universidad Europea de Madrid with the project: The impact of the flipped classroom on student motivation. José said:

"It’s been a thrilling and rewarding experience, both on a personal level and at the language department level… the Teacher Research Programme helped a lot of people in our department get excited about action research and collaborating on classroom material."

If you want to find out more about their findings, the team will be presenting their research at IATEFL in April 2015.

Other projects which won funding last year include exploring the use of social media for cross cultural awareness, building confidence among trainee teachers, using Google Hangouts as virtual classrooms and collaborative online writing tools.
