Supporting our planet and people

We are improving the wellbeing of our planet and its people.

This means we are:

  • Building a generation of learners equipped to tackle climate change
  • Ensuring our operations, products and services are more sustainable
  • Increasing equality for people in our organisation and in our supply chain
  • Acting ethically and seeking to advance society beyond our products and services

We are a proud signatory to the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative and have committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Education

We are empowering people with the skills and knowledge they need to adapt to a changing world.

As a leader in global education, publishing, and research, we can progress action and debate around the world’s most pressing challenges.

Climate change education is crucial to help young people understand the climate crisis, and play a role in tackling it, and to provide the skills we need in our changing economies.

With a reach of over 100 million learners, Cambridge has a unique capacity to raise awareness and understanding of climate change and help people to reach their potential. We do this through our qualifications, context-specific courses, cutting-edge research and awarding winning books. We also convene global voices from education, business and policy to shift ideas into action.

Environment

We recognise the climate emergency and have a responsibility to minimise our impact on the planet as well as create solutions through education, publishing, and research.

This includes:

  • Cutting our energy-related carbon emissions to zero by 2048
  • Reducing our indirect carbon emissions from our paper, freight, and technology
  • Ensuring the paper we use in publishing and assessment is from increasingly sustainable sources
  • Reducing our use of natural resources and waste across our operations

To help achieve this, we are empowering all our people to think and act for a sustainable future. We strive to lead our sector in our environmental practice, while inspiring our peers to join us on the journey.

People

We champion equality, diversity, and inclusion and belonging in all we do.

We want to reflect the millions of people we serve and the millions more we want to reach around the world.

We oppose discrimination and act inclusively for all people, irrespective of race, gender, sexuality, religion, belief, disability, or age. We foster equality through ethical and transparent dealings, guided by our Code of Ethics. Everyone should feel welcome at Cambridge, and we champion equality beyond our own operations.

We are committed to acting for global gender balance and we will look beyond our own operations to advance social equity and widen access to education, using innovation to remove barriers and enhance support.

Society

We aim to grow our positive impact on society beyond our products and services.

We are committed to carrying out our business lawfully and ethically, no matter where in the world we operate.

We believe that our organisation’s goals should never be achieved at the expense of ethical standards. We demand the same high ethical standards and business conduct from our third parties as we do our own people.
