About the Authors
  • This is the essential textbook for students of obstetrics and gynaecology as well as women's health more generally. Thoroughly modern in approach, it covers clinical topics and surgical procedures as well as providing detailed commentary on the contemporary social, psychological and economic issues that affect women's health. Many authors who are the acknowledged leaders in their respective research field have contributed succinct chapters. In this way both students and health professionals are able to benefit from their expertise in a lively and accessible text. It will be a valuable resource for health professionals, including general practitioners, nurses, physiotherapists and health workers. Specific sections address women's mental health, genetics, prescribing for women, health promotion, hormones throughout the life cycle, psychological and behavioural issues. The text is fully illustrated with many useful guides, tables, photographs and diagrams.

    Reviews & endorsements

'This comprehensive Australian textbook covers a lot more than a standard O & G text … this text is a worthwhile resource to update GPs on women's health issues and is recommended.' Australian Doctor

'Caring successfully for women often requires eliciting sensitive information and conducting intimate examinations. All of this must be taken on board by medical students in what is usually a very short and finite period of time. This book admirably succeeds in helping students along their path … There are excellent sections dealing with behavioural and mental health issues, and with sexual health. The book is well laid out and cross-referenced … the book does exactly what it sets out to do: assist medical students to become informed, thoughtful, competent, and sympathetic in their care of women.' The Lancet

'This text stands out refreshingly in placing women as central to the discussion. … an informative, modern, well written addition to the obstetrics and gynaecology library.' Human Fertility
