The Press sponsors major international conference on Michelangelo bronzes

news story

Symposium - A Michelangelo Discovery: The Rothschild bronzes and the case for their proposed attribution
Held by The Fitzwilliam Museum
Conference: Monday July 6
Location: Downing College, Cambridge

It was thought that no bronzes by Michelangelo had survived but now an international team of experts believe they have identified not one, but two. The Rothschild bronzes currently on display at the Fitzwilliam Museum are the works in question.

Join an international panel of art historians, conservation scientists, and other experts as they present the evidence supporting the attribution, as well as new research into how these enigmatic masterpieces were made, their likely iconography, patron and purpose, how they fit into Michelangelo's career more broadly and how they relate to the work of his contemporaries.

Conference supported by Cambridge University Press
